I’m assuming you’ve heard the song with the lyrics “I shot the Sheriff.” The joke here is the typeface is a serif font, meaning the letters have little pointy bits at the ends of the strokes. Sans serif means that the typeface does not have little flags at the ends of the strokes. Times Roman, for example, is a serif font. Arial is a sans serif font.
